Record the source and period

A research note should identify the original release and the period it covers. Keep publication dates and revisions visible.

Avoid jumping straight to a conclusion

Write down what the release says before recording commentary about it. If you compare it with an expectation, identify the source and date of that expectation too.

Keep an open question

End the note with one unresolved question and the next information you would consult. This is a research framework without live economic data or market predictions.
